In 2023, Keep Austin Fed expanded on its previous achievements, setting the stage for future growth. This allowed us to enhance our capacity to serve more community members and prevent perfectly good food from ending up in landfills. We couldn’t do what we do without the volunteers who dedicate so much of their time and the philanthropists who support us financially.
Shout out to the efforts of our volunteers in 2023:
239 volunteers completed 8,483 food rescues, saving over 1.1 million pounds of wholesome food from going to waste and delivering it to neighbors throughout the Austin area. This food provided the equivalent of 950,000 meals to our community.
Additional volunteers dedicated their time daily at our East Austin Hub to sort through donated food, ensuring that everything distributed was of grocery quality. This effort helps maintain the dignity of providing high-quality food to everyone.
A committed group of volunteers supported our "pop-up grocery giveaways," bringing a variety of fresh and culturally responsive foods directly to communities with significant barriers to accessing food assistance.
