Keep Austin Fed Welcomes Programs Coordinator Jess Palmer to the Team!
Please join us in welcoming Jess Palmer to the Keep Austin Fed team as our newest hire! Jess will serve as our full-time Programs Coordinator (notice the “s”!). She will be helping us coordinate all things Keep Austin Fed, from identifying more healthy food sources and donors, expanding our reach through addition of new recipient partners, recruiting to fill the perpetual need for more volunteers, and managing all of the logistics that ensue.
Jess grew up in the Texas Hill Country. She received a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies and Biology from Southwestern University in Georgetown and a Master’s from the University of Michigan School of Natural Resources and Environment. Afterward, Jess worked on a number of projects at home and abroad, from biological monitoring of rivers and streams in Maine to subsistence farming in rural Tanzania. Then, settling in Charlottesville, Virginia in 2010, Jess spent the next decade managing the Farm and Food Program for a Virginia land-trust nonprofit. There, she focused on farmer training, farmland access, and market diversification for local food producers. Now, finding herself back in Central Texas—this time with her husband, two kids and big happy dog—Jess is excited to jump in to food recovery work in Austin. She brings to Keep Austin Fed experience in program development, fundraising, and cross-sector partnerships.
When she's not thinking about food access and local agriculture, Jess loves to garden, hike, experiment with new recipes, and plan the next DIY home renovation. She looks forward to getting to know the Keep Austin Fed community and working hard to further our work!
