Joseph M. de Leon

I started helping Keep Austin Fed after answering Ira Kaplan’s online ad for bike parts in April 2012. We quickly became friends and I soon set up a Facebook page to help recruit volunteers.

Making sure surplus food doesn’t go to waste fits in well with my routine because I volunteer for Compost Coalition Austin, grow vegetables, keep chickens, and am active in Austin’s bicycling community.

A San Antonio native, I worked in graphics and web production before becoming a newspaper reporter. Now I manage online content for Texas Department of State Health Services. I’ve lived in Austin since 2009 with my wife Denise, her son Ian, a pit bull mix called Kimbo, and three cats: Pretty Kitty, Whisker Doodle, and Patchey Poo.
